History
At the conclusion of the Human-Covenant War in 2552, the collapse of the Covenant left billions of Sangheili without leaders, feeling betrayed by the actions of the Prophet of Truth who sought to replace the Sangheili as the Covenant military's leaders with the Jiralhanae. Seizing the opportunity, Thel 'Vadam, who had served as fleetmaster during the war and later became the Arbiter, joined forces with the UNSC against Truth and the remaining Covenant forces.
In 2553, 'Vadam established the Swords of Sanghelios, centered around Vadam Keep. They gained the support of the UNSC by advocating for peace and non-interference with humanity, rather than resuming hostilities. While 'Vadam's reputation and service record won them the backing of many on Sanghelios, their pursuit of peace with humanity also drew criticism, leading to the emergence of competing factions vying for control over the Sangheili homeworld and the fate of their species.
For over five years, the Swords of Sanghelios faced challenges from rival factions during the Sangheili civil war, known as the Blooding Years. Notable adversaries included Avu Med 'Telcam's Servants of the Abiding Truth and Jul 'Mdama's Covenant. While both factions posed significant threats, with the support of the UNSC, the Swords of Sanghelios emerged victorious, establishing themselves as the sole leadership on Sanghelios by the end of 2558.
Members
The Swords of Sanghelios, led by the Arbiter and predominantly composed of Sangheili, have welcomed members from various former Covenant races into their ranks. Unlike many former Covenant members, the Swords of Sanghelios exhibit a reduced level of religious zealotry. However, several individuals, including Thel 'Vadam himself, were once deeply devout until they discovered the truth about the betrayal of the Prophets and the actual history of the Forerunners and the Halo Array.
Although they have become less fanatical, the members of the Swords of Sanghelios maintain unwavering loyalty to the Arbiter. They are prepared to fight to the death under his leadership if the need arises.
